This concerted effort is anticipated to directly impact the final prices of commodities, resulting in cost reductions for Egyptian consumers.
Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, met with the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk to boost joint efforts to facilitate the transportation of essential commodities, particularly wheat, from warehouses and silos to commercial outlets in substantial quantities.
This concerted effort is anticipated to directly impact the final prices of commodities, resulting in cost reductions for Egyptian consumers.
The two sides deliberated on solutions, including allocating trucks through transport companies affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, with a specific emphasis on maximizing the transport of wheat and strategic goods via rail and river systems.
This strategic shift is envisaged to play a pivotal role in driving down transportation costs.
El-Wazir pointed to a comprehensive plan to establish 31 dry ports and logistics areas across Egypt to prevent the accumulation of goods and containers in seaports, improve the level of logistical services provided, and reduce the high cost of transporting goods.
He highlighted the Ministry of Transport's ambitious initiative to establish 7 comprehensive international development logistical corridors.
These corridors are designed to seamlessly connect various production hubs, encompassing industrial, agricultural, mining, and service sectors, to seaports using rapid and secure transportation modes.
The corridors will traverse through dry ports and integrated logistics zones, ensuring efficient movement of goods.
