Egypt set a target to increase the health sector budget to EGP 125 billion by the end of June 2024, to alleviate the burden on citizens by reducing the rates of personal spending on public health, Minister of Finance and Chairman of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, Mohamed Maait said.
Minister Maait added that Egypt succeeded in providing EGP 115 billion to support the sector.
This came within the scope of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to expand the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance in the governorates.
The Egyptian government seeks to increase the private sector’s participation in providing comprehensive health insurance services from 30% to 50%.
The Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in supporting the Egyptian experience by providing comprehensive health insurance.
South Sinai achieved the highest percentage of registration in comprehensive health insurance, in the first phase, with more than 90% of the governorate’s people, CEO of the Universal Health Insurance Authority, Mai Farid added.
