SCZONE Chairman discusses progress on e-friendly industrial zones

Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, Walid Gamal El-Din, met with the Ambassador of Switzerland in Cairo, Yvonne Baumann, and a delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to discuss the progress of the environmentally friendly industrial zones program.

The program, implemented by UNIDO with funding from the Swiss government, is being carried out in collaboration with the industrial developer Orascom within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The partnership between Switzerland and the economic zone aims to support countries in implementing environmentally friendly economic practices, utilizing the expertise of Swiss institutions in collaboration with international organizations.

Ambassador Baumann emphasized the importance of reducing emissions during construction and operation processes, as well as leveraging green fuel to create a sustainable and eco-friendly economic environment. She also highlighted the potential for replicating this model in other economic zones.

During the meeting, El-Din emphasized the significance of the economic zone as a national project aimed at supporting sustainable practices, contributing to Egypt's gross domestic product, generating employment opportunities, and establishing integrated industrial complexes with effective environmental systems. Following an invitation from UNIDO, he also highlighted the economic zone's focus on green energy and its recent participation in the World Circular Economy Forum.

In her remarks, Ambassador Baumann expressed her pleasure at visiting the Suez Canal Economic Zone, particularly during these challenging times. She commended the economic zone for its success story, attributing it to its strategic location, abundant resources, talented workforce, and labor force.
