Egypt has released imported goods valued at more than $8 billion since March 2024. Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, confirmed the government's commitment to swiftly facilitate customs clearance procedures for basic commodities and production necessities.

The move aims to increase the supply of goods in the market and promote price stability, thereby alleviating the financial burden on citizens.

Maait emphasized the importance of addressing import practices that lead to the accumulation of goods in ports and any goods left unclaimed by their owners beyond the prescribed legal period will be dealt with decisively. He also underscored that importers who refuse to release shipments without valid legal justifications are being firmly dealt with.

Head of the Customs Authority, Al-Shahat Ghatouri, highlighted the significant role played by newly developed electronic systems in expediting customs clearance processes. These innovative systems have greatly facilitated the swift entry of goods into local markets and production units. Ghatouri emphasized the round-the-clock efforts of customs officers and relevant authorities to ensure the prompt completion of procedures for immediate goods release.

Priority is given to the release of essential commodities, including food, medicines, feed, and production requirements, in line with the government's objective of achieving a balanced market supply and stabilizing prices.
