The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a press release today, Saturday, on the occasion of World Meteorological Day, celebrated on the 23rd of March each year since the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the commencement of the implementation of the Meteorological Convention to assist countries in preserving the environment and achieving sustainable development.

Among the most significant meteorological indicators, Egypt secured the 22nd position out of 67 countries included in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) for 2024.

This positioning surpasses Algeria, ranked 54th, Turkey at 56th, and the United Arab Emirates at 65th. Egypt also attained the second position after Morocco in the Middle East and North Africa region. This success is attributed to Egypt's initiatives to invest in wide-ranging renewable energy projects, such as promoting solar and wind energy installations.

The highest monthly average of total solar radiation quantity in Egypt during 2022 was recorded in June, reaching 30.6 megajoules per square meter at the Hurghada monitoring station, followed by 30.2 megajoules per square meter in the Kharga monitoring station, and 29.8 megajoules per square meter at the Farafra monitoring station.

The highest monthly average maximum temperature in Egypt during 2022 was 42.6 degrees Celsius, recorded in August at the Aswan monitoring station, while the minimum temperature reached 29.7 degrees Celsius in August at the Sharm El Sheikh monitoring station. Additionally, the Port Said monitoring station recorded the highest monthly average relative humidity in Egypt during 2022, reaching 81% in December.
