The Egyptian government, in cooperation with Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), will work to secure the foreign exchange currency required to import one million tons of sugar, and facilitate customs to ensure availability in the local market, Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly said in a Cabinet statement.

Madbouly emphasized that the government has implemented measures regarding sugar imports, and several shipments have already begun arriving, ensuring a seamless supply of commodities to control the prices.

Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Ali Moselhi, has revealed that the process of procuring 300 thousand tons of raw materials through importation has commenced, with certain shipments already having arrived.

Minister Moselhi also discussed the details of the sugar production plan and its intended distribution in the markets. He stressed that the plan in this framework is based on finding a balance between the consumer price, whether commercial or industrial, and the cost of production.

Recently in March, the minister of supply announced that Egypt will produce approximately 140,000 tons of sugar during the ongoing local sugar beet season.

He added that with the current season, extending until August, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade aims to receive nearly 1 million tons of sugar beet. Additionally, farmers across various governorates have cultivated approximately 600,000 tons of sugar beet in preparation for this season.
