Egypt’s annual inflation rate records 36% in February 2024 | CAPMAS

According to CAPMAS, Egypt's monthly inflation rate was 11.0% for February 2024 compared to 1.7% for January 2024

The annual inflation rate in Egyptian cities increased last February to a record 36.0% compared to 31.2% for the month of January 2024, data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed. The consumer price index in Egypt reached 219.4 points in February 2024.

According to CAPMAS, Egypt's monthly inflation rate was 11.0% for February 2024 compared to 1.7% for January 2024.

The CAPMAS attributed the reasons for this increase are due to the price increase in the meat and poultry group by 25.0%, the cereals and bread group by 14.2%, the fish and seafood 11.5%, dairy group: cheese and eggs 12.8%, oils and fats 14.1%.

Egypt’s annual urban consumer price inflation (CPI) increased to 35.7% compared to 29.8% that was recorded in January 2024, dropping from 33.7% in December 2023.

Food and beverage prices also increased 50.9% year-on-year last month.
