Egyptian agricultural trade witnessed significant growth during the 2022/2023 season, with the Agriculture Export Council reporting an increase of 24.6% in agricultural exports to hit $3.566 billion from the previous season’s $2.860 billion.
Exports of crops surged by 29.2% to reach 5.669 million tons, according to the council’s latest monthly report, a substantial climb from the 4.385 million tons recorded in the previous season.
Imports from Arab countries represented 42% of Egypt’s agricultural export volume at 2.355 million tons, valued at $1.314 billion which amounted to 37% of the sector’s export value.
Exports of crops to non-EU European countries were recorded at 1.108 million tons, 20% of total export volume, worth $807 million, representing 23% of the sector’s export value.
Agricultural exports to EU states reached 26% of export value at $917 million with 25% of total volume at 1.410 million tons.
Exports to Asia were reported at $367 million with around 614,000 tons, while African countries imported crops valued at $63 million, weighing 109,000 tons.
In a previous statement, the council revealed that citrus fruit exports hit $988 million during the 2022/2023 season with 1.987 million tons. Citrus exports comprised 35% of the total agricultural export volume and 28% of the sector’s overall export value.
