HCMLT signs agreements to develop Egypt’s ports on TransMEA sidelines

The agreements were with the United Development Group Company and Missouri State University.

Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport (HCMLT) signed a cooperation protocol and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to foster progress in the ports field, this came on the sidelines of the fourth and closing day TransMEA 2023.

The first notable agreement involves HCMLT partnering with the United Development Group Company in Mauritania. They signed a cooperation protocol aimed at boosting cooperation in the field of maritime transport with African countries, including the state of Mauritania, and to maximize cooperation with the Egyptian private sector.

HCMLT also signed a MoU with Missouri State University. The purpose of this MoU is to design and implement a diploma program in executive leadership for second-level leaders of the HCMLT and its subsidiaries.

The signing ceremony was in the presence of Egyptian Minister of Transport, Kamel Al Wazir, and Tunisian Minister of Transport, Rabie Al Majidi, and Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea to Egypt, Kim Young-hyun.

Al Wazir explained that this signing comes within the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, during the meeting that brought them together in Cairo last June and holding bilateral talks aimed at increasing cooperation between the two countries in the commercial fields.

Earlier in June, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported that the trade exchange between Egypt and Mauritania increased by 11.3%, to reach $42.9m in 2022, compared to $38.5m in 2021.

The value of Egyptian exports to Mauritania recorded $41.1m in 2022, compared to $38.3m million in 2021, an increase of 7.3%, while the value of Egyptian imports from Mauritania amounted to $1.8m, compared to $241,000, an increase of 644.4%.
