Cairo meeting addresses humanitarian crisis in Gaza, int'l issues

Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received his counterpart from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yvan Gil Pinto, on Sunday. During their meeting, the ministers emphasized the importance of their long-standing bilateral relations, dating back to 1950, and expressed their mutual interest in further enhancing cooperation in various fields.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the discussions also centered on continuing coordination and consultations on matters of bilateral and international interest.

Both ministers praised the accord between their nations regarding the respect for international law, commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, and support for the rights of people under foreign occupation to self-determination.

They also stressed their opposition to unilateral sanctions outside the United Nations framework.

Minister Shoukry and Minister Gil Pinto shared their visions on various international and regional issues, including the Palestinian situation, underlining the interests and perspectives of the developing nations on the global stage.

The discussions witnessed a focus on enhancing economic and trade relations, increasing trade exchanges, and expanding bilateral cooperation into various domains such as agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, civil aviation, information technology, pharmaceuticals, and tourism. Minister Gil Pinto expressed Venezuela's intention to widen economic and trade cooperation and raise Venezuelan investments in Egypt in the coming period.

The discussions also involved exploring opportunities for cooperation in multilateral forums. Both ministers exchanged views and assessments on the international and regional developments, including those related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The meeting detailed the current security and humanitarian conditions in Gaza and their potential ramifications for regional and international peace and security. They emphasized the necessity of reaching a ceasefire to safeguard Palestinian lives, provide the required protection and humanitarian aid for civilians, and denounced Israel's violations and collective punishment policies in the Gaza Strip.

Minister Gil Pinto conveyed a message of support from the Venezuelan President Maduro for Egypt and its positions in support of Palestinian rights.
