Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has allocated approximately EGP 321 billion for the transportation sector in the fiscal year 2023/2024, compared to around EGP 247 billion in the previous year, marking an increase of nearly 30%.

Public investments account for about 84% of the total investment, equivalent to EGP 268 billion. It is estimated that the sector's output will reach around EGP 864 billion in the plan year, representing a 22% growth compared to the previous year.

A report from the Ministry of Planning outlined key road projects targeted for the plan year, including the development of the Cairo-Ismailia agricultural road, extending from the regional ring road with a total length of 53.5 km.

Other projects include the construction of the Alexandria-Western North Coast Development Axis and the duplication of the 6th of October-Wahat Road, spanning 270 km.

Additionally, a new road will be established from South Faiyum to Al-Wahat, covering a distance of 125 km. Furthermore, the completion of the duplication of the Asyut-Sohag-Red Sea Road, with a length of 145 km, is also among the planned projects.

As for the road projects targeted for completion during the plan year, the most significant ones include the development of the Cairo-Asyut Western Desert Road, the development of the Wadi El Natrun-Alamein Road, and the expansion and development of the Suez-Geneva-Ismailia-Treaty Road.

The development of the Farafra-Dakhla Road, with a length of 325 km, and the construction of the Toshka-East El Owainat Road, spanning 359 km, are also part of the plan.

Moreover, the plan includes the development of the Dakhla Oasis-East El Owainat Road, covering a distance of 375 km.

Regarding interprovincial road projects, the plan aims to implement 15 projects, including the efficiency enhancement of the Marsa Matruh-Siwa Road, spanning 285 km, and the completion of 11 development projects, such as the development of the Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road, with a length of 180 km, and the completion of the Nobaria Axis, spanning 203 km.

The significant investment allocated to the transportation sector reflects the Egyptian government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and promoting economic growth. These projects are expected to improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and create employment opportunities.

The expansion and development of road networks contribute to efficient transportation systems, benefiting various sectors of the economy and promoting sustainable development across the country.
