Under the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development-backed (EBRD)’s Fayoum Wastewater Expansion Program, EBRD has awarded contracts to Al Kharafi & Sons and Samcrete.

Egypt’s Samcrete was awarded two contracts valued at €36.6 million to build new sewage networks and pump stations in Fayoum. The first contract is valued at €21.1 million and will end in October 2024 and the second one is valued at €15.4 and will end in December 2024. Both of Samcrete’s contracts entail the construction of sewage networks and pump stations.

Al Kharafi will design and build a new wastewater treatment plant with a 35k cbm/d capacity in a €23.9 million contract. The project is expected to finish by the end of April 2025.

Last month, The Sovereign Fund of Egypt announced the qualification of 17 alliances in the competition to execute seawater desalination projects that will be offered to the private sector. The projects will operate using renewable energy sources in several parts of Egypt.
