Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Ali Moselhy, confirmed today that a meeting will be held with Sudanese companies to determine the rate of meat supply from the Sudanese side so far.
During the press conference, he indicated that there will be a diversification of meat sources from abroad.
Therefore, the possibility of importing meat from Somalia and Chad is being studied to compensate for any shortage in the product from other sources.
He clarified that the primary source is Sudan, but alternative sources are being sought in case of a shortage in providing meat.
He also noted that there are about 5,000 heads of Sudanese livestock in the quarries, which is sufficient for seven to 10 months.
The move towards diversification of meat sources is expected to have a positive impact on the supply of meat and is seen as a necessary measure to ensure food security.
Meat consumption is a staple in the Egyptian diet and is a major contributor to the country's economy.
