Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) has injected EGP 55 million into upgrading the Egyptian Root Certificate Authority’s (Root CA) operating system, as well as develop human capabilities, in the past 3 years.

According to Amr Mahfouz, head of ITIDA, the agency has also invested around EGP 75 million to establish exchange site for the Root CA in the New Administrative Capital to meet the increasing demand for e-signature services.

Additionally, the agency is working on boosting the speed of responsiveness of the systems and requests for real-time verification of e-signature validation certificates.

“We are so excited with the current expansion and deployment of the e-signature service in collaboration with the services providers and telecom operators nationwide, which helps in easing access to this important service”, Mahfouz added.

The e-Signature Law, issued in 2004 and upon which the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) was established, supports Egypt’s e-commerce industry by securing the Internet as a legally viable medium for digital transactions and aims to support digital transformation in all state sectors

It is worth noting that the executive regulations of the e-signature law have been amended under the decision of the Minister of communications and information technology No. 361 of 2020, to accelerate Egypt’s digital transformation adoption; and the central role of e-signature in developing the efficiency of administrative work; and improving the government services, and adding to Egypt’s competitiveness globally.
