L’Oréal Egypt reduces carbon emissions by 41%, aims for energy neutrality by 2025

The announcements came during the 11th edition of the CSR & Sustainability forum “Sustainability from adaptation to localization, the path to recovery.”

Leading cosmetic company, L’Oréal Egypt, highlighted its efforts towards a more sustainable development strategy, revealing that it had decreased its carbon emission by 41%, water waste by 24%, and waste by 45%.

Additionally, the company highlighted the implementation of the first phase of its renewable solar panel station during 2020 with the aim to reach 100% energy neutrality by 2025.

L’Oréal Egypt also announced its successful introduction of 100% recyclable plastic bottles through its hair care product lines in the Egyptian market.

The announcements came during the 11th edition of the CSR & Sustainability forum “Sustainability from adaptation to localization, the path to recovery.”

During the forum, country managing director of L’Oréal Egypt, Benoit Julia, highlighted the company’s strategy to achieve sustainable development, its initiatives to reduce environmental hazards, increase positive environment moves, as well as supporting and empowering communities through their various programs.

Part of their “L’Oréal For the Future” strategy, the company has directed around €150 million to support diverse initiatives around the world during the upcoming years.

The strategy rests on 3 main pillars; the continuous pursuit of transforming and respecting the planet throughout all supply cycle, empowering the business ecosystem through transition to a more sustainable world and finally, solving social and environmental pressing challenges.

Julia expressed his pleasure to attend the forum, and highlighted it as an interactive platform that brings together all interested parties to share experiences, discuss future steps to achieve comprehensive sustainable environmental development, and contribute to accelerating the green economy transformation.

Communications & Sustainability Responsible Director, Nahla Mokhtar, also highlighted L’Oreal’s efforts to achieve environmental sustainability during a separate panel, in which she stressed on the importance of raising awareness about environmental sustainability among all production stages and suppliers.

“During our participation in Dubai Expo 2020, Garnier, one of L’Oreal’s global brands, announced its collaboration with National Geographic through the ‘Green Beauty’ initiative to raise awareness about daily environmental changes, as well as, encouraging and empowering 250 million people to live greener on the planet, by 2025,” Mokhtar noted.

Committed to social responsibility, L’Oréal Egypt offers several programs dedicated to empowering a number of segments in the society, especially women aiming to realize gender equality and women inclusion at the workplace. 

One of their leading programs are “L’Oréal UNESCO for women in science”, launched in Egypt during 2018 aiming to recognize the importance of highlighting women achievements in science and research.  In Addition to “Beauty for Better life program” to encourage and empower women who suffer from violence by giving them training on the hairdressing profession to ensure their economic independency.

Adding to the above efforts toward women empowerments L’Oréal has been able to launch another program entitled “Pioneers for the future” that aims to provide job opportunities for women in the areas most in need to promote gender equality by providing them with the necessary training and providing training programs for skills development.

Julia noted to reporters at the event that the company is aiming to expand its operation in the Egyptian market after doubling production out of its factory in the country to meet increasing local demand.

L'Oreal Egypt has launched 14 brands in the Egyptian market with total of 800 employees. 99% of whom are Egyptians. During the 12 years, it has succeeded in being present in Egypt to support and develop Egyptian cadres.
