Egypt’s Suez Canal saw 16,661 trade vessels cross its waters between January and October 25 of 2021, an increase of 8.8% compared to 15,310 ships during the same period in 2020, states Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie.
The global trade route saw revenue climb by 12.6% between January and October 25 of 2021, hitting $5.1 billion, compared to $4.53 billion in the same period in 2020.

The Suez Canal saw an 11.6% growth in revenues during the first 8 months of the year, recording $4.1 billion, compared to $3 billion in H1 2021.
During the first 10 months of 2021, the amount of net tonnage traveling through the canal climbed by 8.5% to total around 1.29 billion tons, compared to 948.4 million tons during the same period last year.

While receiving a top-level of ambassadors from various IMO member states, Rabie reassured the attendees on the ease of navigation and movement within the canal, as well as pointing out the increase of transiting vessels despite the ongoing pandemic’s effect on global trade.
