Egyptian grocery delivery platform GoodsMart recently secured $3.6 million in fresh funding, with Sawari Ventures leading the round.

“The demand for online grocery delivery has been exponentially increasing. GoodsMart has managed to disrupt the market by providing a seamless innovative solution for consumers that will shape the future for this sector,” said Hany El Sonbaty, Managing Partner at Sawari Ventures, in a statement.

Launched in 2014, GoodsMart’s unique delivery model makes it a distinctive brand in the local market.

Like other grocery delivery startups, users can access and order groceries through its mobile app, however its distinctiveness is in its contactless delivery where deliveries are received in pre-installed GoodsMart boxes outside users’ homes, which is sealed with a key.

Amr Fawzi, founder and CEO of GoodsMart, said, “We started in 2014 with a vision to re-invent grocery shopping. Our biggest success is the emotional bond we managed to create with our clients; listening to them was and will always be the secret recipe.”

Users can specify the frequency of delivery of products, whether periodically or on specific days every week or month, and the application also allows the ability to order from some famous stores and bakeries.

All orders are then delivered between midnight and 6 am, so users can wake up and find their groceries early in the day.

The startup works with different suppliers to fulfill customer orders.

It also partners with real estate developers to install its delivery boxes across homes in different residential compounds, giving users the option to order groceries, medicines, and other products.

GoodsMart plans to use the latest funds to accelerate its expansion and add more people to its team.

Currently only delivering in West Cairo, it plans to launch in East Cairo in the next few months with the new funding.
