Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh and Djibouti’s Minister of Trade and Tourism Orbis Hiilaf Orbis have signed a framework cooperation protocol aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and creating new opportunities for Egyptian and Djiboutian businesses.

Farid reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deepening economic integration and partnerships with Djibouti while encouraging joint investments in priority sectors.

He highlighted Egypt’s diversified production and export base, emphasizing its capacity to meet the needs of the Djiboutian market across several sectors, including pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, agricultural and food products, electronics, and engineering goods.

The minister also stressed the importance of leveraging existing trade agreements, particularly the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), to expand bilateral trade and capitalize on preferential trade arrangements.

For his part, Djibouti’s Minister of Trade and Tourism described the signing of the protocol as an important step toward strengthening economic and commercial relations between the two countries.

He noted that Djibouti’s strategic location at the entrance to the Red Sea offers significant opportunities for Egyptian products and investments to access markets across the Horn of Africa.

The Djiboutian minister also reaffirmed his country's commitment to removing barriers to trade and investment, facilitating market access for businesses in both countries, and expanding cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, food security, and tourism.

He added that these efforts would support the development of sustainable economic partnerships and strengthen long-term bilateral cooperation.
