The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has formed a working group to promote gender equality and equal opportunities across Egypt’s non-banking financial activities, as part of efforts to expand women’s financial inclusion and access to financial services.

The group was established by FRA Chairman Islam Azzam and will be headed by Tarek Seif, Executive Director of the Financial Services Institute. It will include FRA and institute officials, a representative of the National Council for Women, and two independent members to be selected by the group’s chairman.

The working group will develop the FRA’s strategy on gender equality and equal opportunities, while monitoring women’s representation on the boards of companies and entities regulated by the authority, as well as in executive and senior management positions.

It will also prepare studies and reports on financing provided to women through non-banking financial activities, identify barriers to equal access to financing, and support women’s entrepreneurship and access to leadership positions.

The group will propose new financial products and initiatives to promote women’s financial inclusion, economic empowerment and social protection, while developing policies to prevent discrimination in the workplace.

It will also coordinate with relevant FRA units and national and international institutions to organize training programs and workshops, examine international best practices, and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress.

The group will submit an annual report to the FRA chairman covering its achievements, performance indicators and results.
