Christine Cabau, Executive Vice President for Assets and Operations at CMA CGM Group, expressed the group’s ambition to further strengthen its future cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, as more vessels from its fleet resume transiting through the canal.
Her remarks came during a meeting held on Tuesday between Chairman of Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, Cabau, and Tarek Zaghloul, CEO of CMA CGM Egypt and Sudan, to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation between the two sides.
Cabau reaffirmed the French shipping group’s commitment to accelerating the return of its vessels to the Suez Canal.
She said CMA CGM is working to increase the number of shipping services transiting the canal and deploy more vessels across its various routes, reinforcing the Suez Canal’s position as a key corridor within the group’s global network.
She also highlighted CMA CGM’s ongoing shift toward more sustainable operations, noting that a significant share of the group’s fleet is adopting liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a lower-emission marine fuel.
For his part, Rabie said navigation statistics showed that 212 CMA CGM vessels transited the Suez Canal in 2025, with total net tonnage of 18.8 million tonnes.
Since the beginning of 2026, the canal has already recorded 199 transits by CMA CGM vessels, with total net tonnage reaching 25.2 million tonnes, reflecting a significant increase in the group’s traffic through the waterway.
