Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom to review the ministry’s key areas of work, in the presence of several ministry officials.

Madbouly said the meeting focused on the executive measures being taken to enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy and increase foreign direct investment. Discussions also covered progress on implementing the FY 2026/2027 Economic and Social Development Plan, the public investment plan being coordinated with governorates and other priority issues.

Rostom said the ministry, in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives, is working to improve economic conditions and achieve tangible progress. Priority is being given to projects under the presidential Decent Life initiative to develop Egypt’s rural villages, as well as the Universal Health Insurance System.

The ministry is also coordinating with other government bodies to contain the repercussions of the ongoing regional crises, which have disrupted supply chains and driven up petroleum and food prices.

Rostom added that the government is taking coordinated measures to strengthen strategic reserves of essential commodities, secure the country’s petroleum needs and accelerate its shift towards renewable energy. The impact of current crises on economic growth is being closely monitored, while targets will be reviewed whenever necessary.

During the meeting, the minister highlighted the National Investment Bank’s unprecedented financial improvement. The bank recorded a net profit of nearly LE 6 billion for the financial year ending June 30, 2025, reflecting a strong recovery in its financial position.

Rostom described the bank as one of the state’s main development and investment arms, noting that it is implementing a comprehensive strategy to restructure its subsidiaries and maximise their contribution to the national economy.

He also reviewed the bank’s future action plan, which includes developing a mechanism to guarantee infrastructure financing through innovative financial instruments. The plan will involve strategic partnerships with the World Bank and several international financial institutions, alongside close cooperation between the ministries of finance and planning and the National Investment Bank’s subsidiaries.

Separately, Rostom outlined preparations for Egypt to host the third edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Festival in November. He said hosting the international event reflects Egypt’s leading regional position in the entrepreneurship sector across the Middle East and Africa.

The minister stressed the importance of coordination among participating entities to ensure the festival is delivered to the highest standard, highlighting Egypt’s promising young talent and investment opportunities.
