Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom met with Norwegian Minister of International Development Åsmund Aukrust on the sidelines of the 2026 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in New York to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on green investment and renewable energy.

The meeting explored ways to expand development and investment partnerships between Egypt and Norway, while reaffirming the strong economic, development, and humanitarian ties between the two countries.

Rostom reviewed the economic impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region and the government's measures to enhance the resilience of the Egyptian economy against external shocks.

He said Egypt has maintained positive economic growth despite regional challenges, supported by the strong performance of key sectors, particularly tourism and remittances from Egyptians working abroad, alongside continued implementation of structural economic reforms.

The two ministers also stressed the importance of intensified international efforts to contain regional tensions and support stability to reduce the economic and humanitarian impact of conflicts.

Climate action was a key topic during the talks, with Rostom emphasizing that expanding renewable energy projects remains a cornerstone of Egypt's green transition strategy and efforts to strengthen energy security.

He also highlighted the role of Norwegian investments in Egypt, particularly projects implemented by Scatec, describing them as a successful model of bilateral cooperation in renewable energy and green hydrogen.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their commitment to deepening cooperation, attracting sustainable investments, and expanding economic partnerships between Egypt and Norway.
