Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended the installation ceremony of the reactor pressure vessel for Unit 2 of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant on Wednesday, calling the project a central pillar of Egypt’s long-term energy plans and a key step toward achieving Egypt Vision 2030.
Speaking at the ceremony, held under the theme Energy for the Future, Madbouly said El Dabaa stands among Egypt’s most important national projects, supporting the country’s broader development agenda while strengthening its regional and international position.
He noted that recent global challenges have highlighted the need to diversify Egypt’s energy sources and increase reliance on clean and sustainable energy. Madbouly added that energy remains a core element of Egypt Vision 2030, as well as a major driver of sustainable development and national security.
The prime minister also said that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had turned Egypt’s long-standing goal of building a peaceful nuclear power plant in El Dabaa into reality.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat said the plant is expected to help cut carbon emissions, address climate change challenges, diversify the country’s energy mix, strengthen energy security, and support the stability of Egypt’s national power grid.
Esmat added that the project also reflects the strength of Egypt’s strategic partnership with Russia.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev expressed appreciation to the Egyptian government and people for their trust, stressing that the El Dabaa project is being implemented in line with the highest nuclear safety standards.
Likhachev said the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for Unit 2 marks another significant milestone in Egypt’s nuclear energy program and reflects continued progress in developing the country’s first nuclear power plant.
