Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today in Évian with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the sidelines of his participation in the G7 Summit.
Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting addressed the overall scope of bilateral relations between Egypt and Brazil. President El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep pride in the historic ties between the two countries, stressing Cairo’s keenness to strengthen these relations and all existing channels of consultation between both sides.
El-Sisi also praised the ongoing joint efforts to implement the outcomes of the strategic partnership agreement signed between the two countries in November 2024, highlighting the notable growth in bilateral trade in recent years.
For his part, President Lula expressed his pleasure at meeting President El-Sisi again and welcomed the momentum in relations between the two countries, particularly as Egypt is Brazil’s most important trade partner in Africa.
The Brazilian president also praised the growing frameworks of cooperation between the two countries following Egypt’s accession to BRICS, as well as the strategic partnership agreement and the free trade agreement between Egypt and Mercosur. He stressed the importance of continuing efforts to increase bilateral trade, despite it recently exceeding $5.5 billion.
The two leaders also discussed joint cooperation in international forums. President Lula expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Egypt and President El-Sisi to restore stability in the Middle East, stressing Brazil’s support for Egypt’s approach, which prioritizes sustainable, comprehensive and peaceful solutions to crises in the Middle East and Africa.
At the end of the meeting, the two presidents agreed to continue coordination and consultations at all levels in the coming period.
