Egypt’s net foreign reserves rose by the end of May, reaching $53.134 billion, compared to $53.009 billion at the end of April 2026, an increase of $125 million, according to data released by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

Egypt’s foreign reserves consist of a basket of major international currencies, including the US dollar, euro, pound sterling, Japanese yen, and Chinese yuan.

The allocation of these holdings is determined based on the exchange rates of these currencies and their stability in international markets, in line with a plan set by Central Bank of Egypt officials.

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also jumped by 32% during the first nine months of FY2025/2026, reaching $34.9 billion, compared to $26.4 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year, according to data released by the Central Bank of Egypt earlier this month.
