Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed a proposal submitted by China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) to implement a project for a city of hospitals and educational institutes dedicated to research and training in the New Capital.
Madbouly stressed the importance of the project as one of the major medical and educational landmarks planned on the outskirts of the new capital.
The initiative aims to establish a fully integrated medical city comprising hospitals, research centers, and training facilities, contributing to improved healthcare services for citizens, the provision of high-quality medical care, and the promotion of medical tourism.
Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar noted that the ministry has been studying the project for some time, drawing on international models of integrated medical cities.
He expressed expectations that the project would deliver significant benefits to Egypt’s healthcare system, the comprehensive health insurance framework, and the country’s medical tourism sector.
The minister outlined the project’s broader objectives, explaining that it aligns with Egypt Vision 2030 for sustainable development by enhancing public health outcomes and advancing medical education.
This includes establishing modern institutes and training centers to upgrade the skills of current healthcare professionals, prepare qualified physicians, and meet the growing demand for healthcare services.
The project is intended to position Egypt as a leading regional hub for advanced medical treatment and scientific research.
Abdel Ghaffar also indicated that several international companies have submitted proposals to implement the project, all of which are currently under review to ensure alignment with the government’s strategic priorities in the healthcare sector.
For his part, Hesham Sheta, Chairman of Incom, the Egyptian partner of CSCEC, presented the company’s proposal and preliminary master plan.
The design includes medical, administrative, and educational zones, specialized hospitals, as well as plans for a hotel, a large commercial center, and extensive green spaces.
Sheta highlighted the factors supporting the selection of the Chinese firm to design and execute the project, emphasizing its global leadership in healthcare infrastructure development and its long-standing experience in delivering strategic projects in Egypt in cooperation with government entities.
He added that the proposed site in the southern area of the New Administrative Capital represents a strategic location that ensures easy access for patients, healthcare professionals, and students.
Officials confirmed that the proposal submitted by the Chinese company, along with other offers from specialized international firms, is currently under detailed evaluation in preparation for selecting the most suitable bid and launching project implementation.
