Chinese company CJN, a major player in phosphate-based industries, signed an agreement with Elsewedy Industrial Development to establish an integrated phosphate chemicals complex in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, located within the Sokhna 360 Integrated Industrial City of the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The project will cover 905,000 square meters inside Sokhna 360 and will be developed across three sequential phases, with total investments estimated at $1 billion.

A significant portion of the complex’s production will be dedicated to exports targeting markets in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.

The first phase begins In 2026, with commercial operations expected in 2028.

This stage focuses on increasing the added value of Egyptian phosphate ore through the production of phosphoric acid, as well as DAP and TSP fertilizers, each with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons.

The second phase, scheduled to start in 2029 and operate by 2031, will focus on producing high-purity phosphate chemicals such as Purified Phosphoric Acid (PPA) in both industrial and food grades, along with Monopotassium Phosphate (MKP).

These products will be manufactured in the Middle East for the first time.

The third phase, which begins in 2032 and targets commercial operation in 2034, will move into new-energy materials, particularly components used in the production of electric-vehicle batteries.

Key outputs will include Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) and Lithium Dihydrogen Phosphate, supporting Egypt’s positioning as a regional hub for advanced battery materials.

The project also includes the creation of a specialized Research and Development Center dedicated to advancing phosphate-based chemical technologies.

This center will be launched alongside the first phase to support industrial localization and strengthen Egypt’s scientific and technological capabilities in the sector.
