The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) “Farewell Conference and Investiture Ceremony” kicked off on Friday at the St. Regis Almasa Convention Center in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. The event runs from 24 to 25 October 2025.
Held under the theme “Decades of Impact as Building Blocks for a Prosperous Future,” the two-day event marks the official farewell of Professor Benedict Oramah, outgoing President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, following ten years of leadership that significantly advanced intra-African trade.
The conference also includes the investiture of Dr. George Elombi as the new President of Afreximbank.
The agenda features high-level sessions on trade finance, innovation, sustainable growth, and Africa’s industrial transformation, with discussions covering innovative funding instruments, digital trade platforms, and integration with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Distinguished African leaders, policymakers, and international financial experts are attending the event, which concludes with an investiture ceremony and a gala evening featuring cultural performances and tributes to Professor Oramah’s tenure.
Dr. George Elombi, a Cameroonian national, becomes the fourth President of Afreximbank since its establishment in 1993. He joined the bank in 1996 as a Legal Officer and rose through the ranks to serve as Executive Vice President for Governance, Legal, and Corporate Services before his appointment as President.
Afreximbank is a multilateral financial institution dedicated to promoting and financing trade within and beyond Africa. Egypt is the bank’s second-largest shareholder after Nigeria.
