The Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Egyptian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EPEAVC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). This partnership aims to improve direct investment and venture capital in Egypt and create a supportive environment for investors.
Chairman of EPEAVC, Ayman Soliman, and USAID’s Mission Director in Egypt, Sean Jones, signed the agreement.
The main goal of the MoU is to strengthen the investment ecosystem in Egypt by enhancing the efficiency of private equity and venture capital investors. The agreement aims to provide a better environment for investment, particularly in sectors like startups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Under the partnership, USAID’s Business Egypt project, implemented by DAI, will work with EPEAVC to develop a strategic plan for the association. This plan will guide EPEAVC’s long-term goals, contributing to the growth of the Egyptian investment landscape.
The MoU also focuses on capacity building. USAID and EPEAVC will work together to improve employees’ skills in the venture capital and angel investment fields. This will help create a skilled workforce that can support investment growth.
The partnership will also support policy reform for the venture capital industry and the broader Egyptian investment environment. This includes identifying practices and developing guidelines for EPEAVC to shape Egypt’s private equity and venture capital sectors.
This partnership comes as Egypt sees growing interest in startups and venture capital as economic growth and job creation drivers. The MoU is expected to improve the investment infrastructure by aligning EPEAVC’s strategic objectives with USAID’s experience.
This MoU's capacity-building and policy reforms aim to create a more attractive investment environment for domestic and international investors, supporting innovation and economic activity, especially in growth-focused sectors.
