Egypt's Economic Zone Authority for the Suez Canal has announced the successful execution of the first ship bunkering operation at the Port of El Sokhna, located in the southern region of the economic zone.

The container ship, CMA CGM SUEZ, was supplied with fuel by the bunkering vessel Karpathos, marking the start of the economic zone's provision of this service to maritime lines operating in the area.

In line with the Economic Zone's 2020/2025 strategy to localize maritime services in its affiliated ports, Waleed Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, announced the implementation of ship bunkering services at the East and West Ports of Port Said in June of last year.

He highlighted that the service was carried out during the container ship's berth at the first basin of the Dubai Ports World container terminal in El Sokhna Port, an operator within the economic zone.

The vessel was bunkered with 950 tons of fuel by the bunkering barge Karpathos, owned by Minerva, a subsidiary of Minerva Marine.

Expressing his satisfaction with the successful operation, the Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone emphasized that it reflects the zone's commitment to developing infrastructure and improving services provided to ships in the ports of the economic zone.

These efforts aim to attract more maritime lines and provide specialized maritime services, particularly for vessels transiting the Suez Canal and those calling at the economic zone's ports.

The Chairman reaffirmed the continuous efforts within the economic zone's ports to provide distinctive and advanced services to ships, in accordance with agreed technical and legal standards. He highlighted that this service is part of the expansion and growth plans pursued by the zone in line with Egypt's national strategy to transform into a regional and leading hub for ship bunkering.

The successful execution of the first ship bunkering operation at the Port of El Sokhna is a significant milestone for the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

It demonstrates the zone's commitment to enhancing its maritime services and attracting more shipping lines.

By providing specialized bunkering services, the economic zone is poised to become a prominent regional hub for ship fueling, further boosting trade and economic activities in the region.
