Egypt’s oil and gas sector has implemented several major projects aimed at reducing the country’s carbon emissions, revealed a report by Ahram Gate.

According to the report, these projects have already contributed to reducing 1.34 million tons of CO2 emissions.

Low-cost projects centered on improving energy efficiency are at a total of 88, implemented across 31 companies, helping them cut electricity and energy consumption, improve operation efficiency, and control operating conditions.

Solar-powered cells and batteries were installed and operating in 21 companies’ buildings and fields at a capacity of 1,350 kilowatts.

The government has provided natural gas to more than 115 villages, or 13.50 million residential units, with plans to expand the program to tens of hundreds of villages.

According to Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El-Molla, 472,000 vehicles in Egypt are now powered by natural gas, thanks to the state’s efforts aimed at encouraging citizens to convert petrol-run cars to natural gas.
