The value of Egyptian automotive imports (vehicles, parts and spare parts) was recorded at $1.873 billion during the first quarter of 2022, with a value of $550 million in March 2022 alone, revealed the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Passenger car imports fell during Q1 2022, declining by 19.1% to hit $787.99 million compared to about $974.75 million during the same period in 2021.

Egyptian imports of other vehicles were valued at $362 million, with imports of parts recorded at around $680 million.

Private use vehicles were imported at a value of $47.416 million, up by 13.5% when compared to $41.73 million in Q1 2021.

CAPMAS’ trade bulletin also noted that the value of Egypt’s imports of cars, tractors, bicycles and their parts from Turkey increased by 14.8% during the first 3 months 2022, reaching $126.98 million compared to $110.61 million in Q1 2021.

On a monthly basis, imports from Turkey fell by 43.8% in March 2022 to reach $26.05 million, compared to $46.378 million in March 2021.

Vehicles imported from China to Egypt had a smaller drop of 3.3% to record $215.18 million in Q1 2022, compared to $222.45 million during the same period last year.

Month-on-month, vehicles imported from China grew by 52.3% in March 2022, hitting $89.237 million, compared to $58.60 million during the same month of 2021.

Egypt’s imports of cargo transport vehicles in Q1 2022 declined by 4% to settle at $145.30 million, compared to $151.32 million in 2021’s Q1. The value of Egypt's imports of auto parts increased by 8.6%, reaching $195.13 million, compared to $179.66 million.
