Egypt’s engineering exports are expected to climb 20% this year compared to 2021, says Engineering Export Council of Egypt (EEC) chairperson, Sherif El-Sayed.

Emphasizing that the sector’s exports could see significant inclines this year, El-Sayed expects higher climbs of around 40-50%, if some factors are taken into consideration, pointing towards the government’s exporters’ subsidy initiative.

The EEC head added that cost reduction of production is one of the most important pillars to boost engineering exports, as well as help it hit unprecedented targets and removing customs on components and production requirements.

This will increase the competitiveness of the final product’s price in international markets, he added.

There is a need to further localize manufacturing of components in the production process, El-Sayed stated, highlighting the importance of having incentive packages to attract foreign investors to manufacture strategic and main components that have no local alternative.

He pointed towards increasing efforts towards finding or establishing local accreditation laboratories for exported goods as a strategy that would support exporters, allowing them to easily obtain conformity certificates and be less dependent on foreign laboratories or those that belong to international companies that may be costly and time-consuming.

Additionally, he called for the launching of direct shipping lines to African countries with lower prices, as the African market is one of the most promising destinations for Egyptian products, which will help in the quick insertion of Egyptian products into foreign markets and cheaper promotion for them.
