For too long, the world thought education to be one of the few experiences that could never be conducted remotely, requiring a classroom setting to achieve its purpose. However, as education norms evolve overtime, so do the ways people view educational platforms shifting to more time-convenient portals.

It is no surprise today that this revolutionary shift has impacted learning and development, paving the way for social learning and shaping the education of tomorrow.

For example, video-sharing platform TikTok rapidly progressed into a highly diverse social network that covers content from comedy to educational videos on extensive topics.

TikTok is one of several online platforms to jump at the change aiming to benefit the public. And with TikTok being available in over 150 markets and in 75 languages, the platform has enabled millions of users to form communities of inspiring content creators who – on a daily basis – play a role in their followers’ learning journey.

With numerous learning hashtags turning into universal trends by TikTok’s very own content creators, TikTok is gradually becoming a new learning hub.

TikTok is a place where users can create exciting, engaging and educating content in a creative and entertaining way, allowing creators to use TikTok as a platform to educate their audience through short and engaging video content.

#LearnOnTikTok alone has garnered over 1.89 billion views and more than 50K videos published in Egypt, and  #TipsAndTricks had over 113 Mn views and 4K videos published in the motherland,  and it is showing no signs of slowing down as people are craving educational content more than ever.

It’s only fair to ask, how has TikTok become such a popular learning platform in such a short time?

TikTok’s success can be attributed to numerous reasons.

Easy to use: the platform is designed to help those who want to become content creators, edit, share information, and find their audience.

Creators are virtual teachers: TikTok education-focused content creators are in fact very diverse! This is evident in the different degrees they hold diplomas they have and their skills and capabilities to exemplify what they are teaching in a captivating, fun and engaging way that gives them the buzz and influence. Furthermore, the live feature gives creators the space to start a live chat with their followers to engage with and provide them with useful information.

Short and inclusive: It’s becoming the norm for people to use short comprehensive ways to demonstrate mastery and to replace traditional educational means. In addition, the mass is accepting this way, sparked by the interest of the topics and not because it’s obligatory.

Users show up to enhance skills that may not be taught in a classroom but rather gain it by experience such as interpersonal skills, work community related skills, how to work in a healthy environment. Users are also able to learn general information in different fields unbeknownst to them.

The future of learning is online: Social media is a powerful tool because it offers education while retaining its social, fun, engaging content that people naturally gravitate to. TikTok is no exception; people make friends, interesting content, and along the way find new groups with shared interests.
