Chinese President Xi Jinping said China and Egypt should deepen economic cooperation and expand investment and technology partnerships as the two countries mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.
In an article written by the Chinese president ahead of his visit to Egypt, Xi Jinping said China is ready to work with Egypt to strengthen their comprehensive strategic partnership and support the two countries’ development and modernization efforts.
Xi highlighted Egypt’s role as a major trade and investment partner for China in the Arab world and Africa, noting that Egypt was among the first countries to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative.
He pointed to the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone as a key example of bilateral cooperation, saying it has attracted investment and created jobs in Egypt.
Chinese companies have also contributed to major infrastructure projects in Egypt, including the construction of the Central Business District in the New Administrative Capital and the first electric railway in Africa, Xi said.
Looking ahead, Xi called for deeper alignment between the development strategies of the two countries and expanded cooperation in areas including electric vehicles, batteries and energy storage, renewable energy, electronics, desalination equipment and shipbuilding.
He also identified telecommunications, artificial intelligence and space technology as priority areas for technology transfer and future economic cooperation between China and Egypt.
Xi said China’s industrial capabilities, capital, technology and equipment complement Egypt’s large population, resources and market, creating significant potential for mutually beneficial cooperation.
He also called for stronger cooperation in education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports and archaeology, while urging both countries to strengthen coordination as members of the Global South.
Xi is schduled to visit Egypt today at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with the visit set to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
