Discussions focused on cooperation in the development and utilisation of phosphate ore, as well as phosphate-based industries, particularly phosphate fertiliser production.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met with Abdulwahab Al-Rawad, CEO of the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, to discuss opportunities for joint cooperation and the exchange of expertise in phosphate ore development and related mining industries.
The meeting took place during Badawi’s visit to Jordan and was attended by Yasser Salah El-Din, Chairman of the Egyptian Jordanian Fajr for Natural Gas Transmission and Supply Company, and Mohamed El-Bagoury, Head of the Central Department of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
Discussions focused on cooperation in the development and utilisation of phosphate ore, as well as phosphate-based industries, particularly phosphate fertiliser production. Both Egypt and Jordan possess promising phosphate reserves and significant technical expertise in mining and related industries, creating opportunities for partnerships that generate added value and sustainable economic returns for both countries.
During the meeting, the ministry presented its strategy to maximise the added value of phosphate ore by expanding downstream industries, particularly the production of phosphate fertilisers and phosphoric acid. The strategy supports Egypt’s objective of increasing the mining sector’s contribution to gross domestic product while enhancing its competitiveness and attractiveness to local and foreign investment.
Badawi said the ongoing reforms in Egypt’s mining sector, including legislative development and improvements to the investment environment, aim to establish integrated industrial projects that ensure the optimal economic utilisation of mineral resources and support sustainable development.
For his part, Al-Rawad praised Egypt’s accelerated efforts to develop its mining sector and expressed the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company’s interest in cooperating with the Egyptian side to advance shared interests.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination between specialised technical teams to assess cooperation opportunities and develop implementation mechanisms that translate them into practical projects and partnerships.
Such cooperation would strengthen integration between Egypt and Jordan in mining-related industries while maximising added value and economic returns for both countries.
