Egypt’s ready-made garments exports increased by 15% year-on-year during the first four months of 2026, supported by rising demand in key international markets, particularly the United States and Europe, according to official industry data.

A monthly report issued by the Egyptian Export Council for Readymade Garments showed that total exports of the sector reached around $1.15 billion between January and April 2026, compared to $1.002 billion in the same period of 2025.

April alone recorded the strongest monthly performance since the start of the year, with exports jumping to $287 million, up from $216 million in April 2025, marking a 33% increase.

The United States remained the largest destination for Egyptian garments, with exports rising to $429 million in the first four months of 2026, compared to $379 million a year earlier, reflecting 13% growth.

European markets continued to strengthen their position as the largest regional bloc importing Egyptian garments, accounting for 44.6% of total exports. Shipments to Europe surged to $512 million, up from $398 million in the same period last year, a 29% increase.

Among individual European markets, Turkey ranked second overall with imports valued at $135 million, followed by Spain at $102 million, Germany at $67 million, and the Netherlands at $64 million. Exports to the United Kingdom also rose to $42 million, while shipments to Italy jumped by 95% to $33 million.

The head of the Export Council for Readymade Garments said the sector remains committed to achieving annual export growth exceeding 22%, despite global economic uncertainties and ongoing geopolitical pressures affecting international trade.

He noted that the strong performance reflects the increasing competitiveness of Egyptian apparel in global markets, driven by shifting supply chains and growing interest from major brands in diversifying sourcing to more flexible production hubs.

He added that the U.S. market continues to be the main growth driver, alongside expanding penetration in key European markets such as Spain, Germany, and Italy. Improved product quality and adherence to delivery schedules, he said, have strengthened international buyers’ confidence in Egyptian manufacturing.

The council is also pursuing a strategy to enter new markets, particularly in Africa, while increasing market share in Europe and the United States. It is also encouraging new investments in textile and apparel production to support further expansion.

The report added that maintaining the current growth trajectory will require continued export support programs, improved access to financing for factories, and stronger local integration of raw materials and inputs to increase value-added production.

The council expects exports to rise by more than $1 billion in 2026, potentially reaching $4.4 billion in total annual exports for the sector for the first time, marking a record high for Egypt’s garment industry.
