According to a statement from the Cabinet, the project aims to develop an integrated industrial complex for fertilizers and basic chemicals on an area of 522,000 square meters, with a production capacity of up to 600,000 tons annually in the initial phase.
The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) signed an agreement on Wednesday with Indorama Egypt Fertilizers to establish a new phosphate fertilizer plant in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, with investments totaling $525 million for the first phase.
According to a statement from the Cabinet, the project aims to develop an integrated industrial complex for fertilizers and basic chemicals on an area of 522,000 square meters, with a production capacity of up to 600,000 tons annually in the initial phase.
The facility will produce phosphate fertilizers and related products, with approximately 80% of output designated for export markets.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated that the project represents a significant addition to Egypt’s strategic industries sector, particularly in fertilizers and industries linked to mineral resources.
Meanwhile, Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of SCZONE, noted that the project reflects the authority’s success in attracting specialized industrial investments characterized by high capital intensity and advanced technology.
He also emphasized that the project will feature fully integrated production activities, from intermediate materials to final products, supporting deeper local manufacturing and strengthening value chains within chemical industries that rely on mineral-based raw materials.
