In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry revealed that the onshore Nile Delta region witnessed, for the first time in two years, two new natural gas discoveries.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced new oil and natural gas discoveries in Egypt’s Western Desert and Nile Delta during October 2025, adding more than 5,000 barrels of crude oil and 42 million cubic feet of gas per day to national production.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry revealed that the onshore Nile Delta region witnessed, for the first time in two years, two new natural gas discoveries.
The first discovery was made by Harbour Energy (UK) through Desouq Petroleum Company after drilling the North Sidi Ghazi 9-1 well, while the second discovery was achieved by Dana Gas (UAE) through El Wastani Petroleum Company in the West Qantara area, via the Salma Delta-6 well, with a combined output of 19 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Both discoveries are now being integrated into Egypt’s national gas production network.
In the Western Desert, Khalda Petroleum Company achieved a series of discoveries, the most recent being SHAI-3X and WD 33J-1X, which have already been added to the production map with a total output exceeding 3,550 barrels of crude oil and 23 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Meanwhile, Agiba Petroleum Company announced the Dorra-44 discovery, producing more than 500 barrels per day, while the General Petroleum Company reported the GPU-1X discovery in the Abu Sennan area, now contributing 350 barrels per day.
Additionally, Petrosanan Petroleum Company made a new discovery in the East Alam El Shawish concession in the Western Desert through the HG34/1 D-1X well, which has been connected to production at a rate of around 1,000 barrels per day.
In a related development, PetroBaker Petroleum and Cheiron achieved three additional discoveries in the Eastern Desert, South Ghazalat, and North Um Baraka areas of the Western Desert, with ongoing reservoir evaluations and well testing currently underway.
The ministry noted that the new Western Desert discoveries involved production from deeper geological layers, encouraging operating companies to explore further and tap into untapped reserves.
The statement also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence technologies, which contributed to the success of several wells.
Between July and October 2025, Egypt recorded 18 new oil and gas discoveries, of which 13 have already been brought into production, with a combined daily output of 14,000 barrels of oil and condensates and 44 million cubic feet of gas — significantly helping to reduce the country’s import bill and strengthen domestic energy security.
