Egypt’s auto market continued its rebound in May, with total vehicle sales rising 15.9% month-on-month to reach 14.3k units — the highest monthly volume since June 2022, according to data from the Automotive Marketing Information Council (Amic) cited by EnterpriseAM.
The uptick extends the recovery trend that began in February, following a steep 22% drop in January.
Passenger car sales grew 13.1% m-o-m to 11.1k units, maintaining a steady upward trajectory. Truck sales saw the sharpest monthly increase, jumping 28% to 2.4k units, while bus sales rose 23.6% to hit 792 units.
Year-on-year growth was even more striking: Total auto sales more than doubled, surging 127.7% from May 2024. Passenger vehicle sales were up 131.4% y-o-y, while bus and truck sales rose 76% and 133.2%, respectively.
For context, May 2024 saw just 6.3k units sold compared to this May’s 14.3k.
This latest performance builds on a partial recovery seen in 2024, when annual sales rose 13.2% y-o-y to 102.2k units.
That rebound followed a supply-constrained period driven by FX shortages, which had enabled distributors to raise prices significantly.
