Egypt’s Robbiki Leather City is aiming to attract $2 billion in investments during its third phase, which includes the development of 100 new factories, according to Hosny Zayed, CFO and Administrative Director at Cairo Investment and Urban & Industrial Development Company, the entity managing the project, who spoke to Asharq Bloomberg.
Zayed noted that approximately 50% of these factories have already been allocated to investors, with the remaining plots expected to be offered over the next two years.
The city is Egypt’s first specialized industrial zone dedicated to tanning and leather manufacturing, along with supporting and complementary industries.
The city provides the infrastructure, utilities, and services required for these sectors. Development began in May 2016 and is being executed in three phases.
Zayed also told Asharq that the third phase aims to generate $1 billion in annual exports by 2030, establishing the city as a key export base for Egyptian leather products to global markets.
Around 40% of the factories in this phase will focus on exports and import substitution, he added.
The first phase of Leather City is dedicated to raw leather tanning and primary processing. The second phase supports the industry through complementary products such as adhesives, gelatin, and logistics.
The third and current phase, which is under development, will focus on manufacturing finished leather goods and further complementary industries.
Zayed mentioned that the timeline for offering the remaining factories in the third phase will depend on the seriousness of current investors and their ability to begin operations within one year of receiving their allocations.
