The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) announced Thursday the official launch of eSIM technology in Egypt, marking the introduction of the country's first digital SIM card.

This follows the completion of all technical tests by the four mobile operators in Egypt.

Starting Thursday, customers can visit branches of the four mobile companies nationwide to activate the new eSIM on their mobile numbers.

Steps to Activate eSIM for New Numbers:

1. Visit the branch of the mobile operator to purchase a new eSIM.
2. Choose a mobile number.
3. Sign the contract for the eSIM line.
4. The sales representative or customer service staff will print a QR code from the internal system.
5. The customer activates the eSIM.

Steps to Activate eSIM on Existing Numbers:

1. Visit the branch of the mobile operator to purchase an eSIM.
2. Sign the contract for the eSIM.
3. The sales representative or customer service staff will replace the traditional SIM with the eSIM for the same number.
4. The sales representative or customer service staff will print a QR code from the internal system.
5. The customer activates the eSIM.

The QR code is valid for only 5 days from the date of issuance. If this period is exceeded, the customer must visit the operator's branch to replace the SIM card and receive a new QR code.

This move is part of Egypt's digital transformation in the telecommunications sector, providing greater flexibility for users in managing their phone lines.
