Egypt plans to launch Wi-Fi calling service before the end of 2024, according to informed sources who spoke to Asharq Bloomberg.

There are four mobile phone service operators in Egypt: Vodafone Egypt, Orange, Etisalat Egypt, and the state-owned Telecom Egypt.

In 2023, mobile operators in the local market submitted their proposals for the service to the National Telecom Regulatory Authority for approval and operational rules, as per a source who spoke to Asharq Bloomberg.

The technology of Wi-Fi Calling means making traditional mobile calls but using the internet connection via Wi-Fi instead of the mobile network, allowing users to benefit from the calling service through a land internet network.

the new services aim to strengthen the signal indoors, specifically targeting weak coverage in crowded places and high-rise buildings, and the service will be priced the same as traditional calls according to a billing system for each subscriber.
