ITIDA signs MoU to open new innovation center in new capital

It will also provide support in the fields of stimulating industrial innovation and designing smart factories

The Information Technology Industry Development Authority (ITIDA) signs memorandum of understanding with the Industry Modernization Center and Siemens Egypt to establish and equip the first innovation center in the Knowledge City of the Administrative Capital.

The center aims to push progress by raising awareness on new technologies and its practical applications in smart factories, adopting advanced technology in local manufacturing, as well as training in automation and digitization techniques.

It will also provide support in the fields of stimulating industrial innovation and designing smart factories in a way that contributes to the transfer of knowledge and the development of the industrial sector.

Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), and Mrs. Nevine Gamea, Minister of Trade and Industry, witnessed the signing.

The MoU was signed by Eng. Amr Mahfouz, CEO of ITIDA, Eng. Mohamed Abdel Karim, Executive Director of the Industrial Modernization Center, and Mr. Mostafa El-Bagoury, CEO of Siemens.

Talaat emphasized that this cooperation combines very important elements in the strategy of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, including fostering creativity and developing innovative work and creative skills.

This is in addition to electronics manufacturing, where efforts are combined to move Egypt a steady leap in the field of electronics design and manufacture, he added.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Nevine Gamea, discussed her ministry’s eagerness to implement new techniques and applications to the industrial sector to keep local products competitive in both local and foreign markets.

Talaat explained that serious steps have been taken in the field of the electronics industry in Egypt during the recent period, the most prominent of which was the signing of a contract with an international company to manufacture tablet computers in Egypt. 

Work is also underway within the framework of a committee that includes the Ministries of Communications and Information Technology, Trade and Industry and a number of concerned parties to develop recommendations based on scientific foundations that will be submitted to the Prime Minister and political leadership in order for Egypt to move forward in the field of electronics design and manufacturing.

Talaat added that Egypt seeks to keep pace with and localize the latest global technologies and stimulate the adoption of smart manufacturing technology to achieve digital transformation at the level of all industrial sectors, and then increase competitiveness to become an active element in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. 

He explained that this cooperation will contribute to accelerating work towards making Egypt a leading regional center in the field of designing and manufacturing electronics, in implementation of the presidential initiative "Egypt makes electronics."

Gamea added that the Fourth Industrial Generation Innovation Center aims to provide services and programs to improve and build the capabilities of the local industrial sector, as well as for entrepreneurs and university students.

This will facilitate production processes and product development through the application and promotion of the concepts of digital transformation, she added.

Gamea indicated that coordination has been made with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Siemens to form a mini-working group to follow up the implementation of the agreement and work to solve any obstacles that may face the implementation process, provided that this group meets periodically to evaluate each stage of the implementation, which contributes to ensuring the achievement of The intended benefit from this agreement, especially on the industrial sector.
