Egypt will receive $230 million from Japan to support its budget, according to Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, in a statement he made to Asharq Bloomberg on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum special meeting in Riyadh.

Maait also told Asharq that the financing agreement with Japan came after the recent completion of the International Monetary Fund to increase the loan’s value to Egypt.

The minister also highlighted potential investments available to the Japanese business community during a meeting with Japan Bank for International Cooperation Governor Nobumitsu Hayashi on the sidelines of the event.

The finance minister also expressed his appreciation for the developmental role of Japanese investments in Egypt, especially in human development. He stated that Egypt has many models of successful partnerships with the Japanese side, especially in health, education, and green investment. Egypt also issued around $500 million of debt in Japan's domestic bond market in 2023.
