Egyptian Finance Minister Discusses Healthcare Financing Challenges at World Bank Forum

Egypt's Finance Minister and healthcare officials engage at the World Bank forum, exploring post-pandemic healthcare financing challenges.

Egyptian Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Maait, and Chairman of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, participated today, Tuesday, in the "Healthcare Financing" forum hosted by the World Bank, under the theme "Investing in Health in the Post-Pandemic Era - Healthcare Financing Challenges." The forum took place at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C., on the sidelines of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

During the forum, Minister Maait, also the Chairman of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, discussed Egypt's experience in implementing the comprehensive health insurance system for all family members. He emphasized the establishment of more efficient financing systems and the building of substantial reserves to enhance the financial sustainability of this comprehensive health system. Moreover, he highlighted the collaboration with international partners to achieve human development and uplift the healthcare sector.

Meanwhile, Mai Fareed, Assistant Minister for Economic Justice, Acting Executive Director of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, served as a key speaker in the forum's sessions titled "Enhancing Cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to Address Healthcare Financing Challenges in the Post-Pandemic World" and "Social Health Insurance and Fair Progress towards Universal Coverage."

Commenting on the forum, Mai Fareed stressed its significance as a real opportunity to review Egypt's experience in comprehensive healthcare reform and the authority's capacity to manage and finance this advanced system. She underscored the importance of stimulating various international partnerships with major entities and institutions concerned with healthcare financing and comprehensive health coverage to further advance Egypt's comprehensive health insurance system and encourage investment climate in the country. Fareed also highlighted the World Bank's crucial role as one of the most important international development partners for the success of comprehensive health insurance in Egypt.
