Presidential Decree (No. 325 of 2023) has approved letters exchanged between the Egyptian and Japanese governments regarding a 100 billion Yen loan provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to implement the first phase of the Metro Line 4 of Greater Cairo

The 100-billion Japanese Yen loan was signed earlier on April 30, 2023, This metro line will link The 6th of October City and the archaeological area around the Great Pyramids with the underground train network.

Egypt received the first tranche of the funding, worth 32.7 billion yen, in 2012 and signed the agreement on the second tranche, worth 41 billion yen, in December 2022.

According to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Cairo and Japan pumped investments valued at $73.70 million in Egypt during fiscal year (FY) 2021/2022. This figure represents a significant increase of 98.7% compared to the previous year's investment of $37.10 million.

Japan is one of Egypt's most important Asian development partners, as the development cooperation portfolio includes more than 18 development projects in support of the government's plan to achieve the SDGs, with a value of about $3.9 billion, since 2010 until now, in addition to many grants in development in the fields of health, education, energy, electricity, transportation, civil aviation, tourism and antiquities, irrigation, and education.
