The value of the license to operate 5G mobile phone networks granted to Telecom Egypt amounts to $150 million for 15 years,
National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and Telecom Egypt, signed a contract granting an operating license for fifth generation (5G) mobile phone to Telecom Egypt, according to a Cabinet statement.
The value of the license to operate 5G mobile phone networks granted to the Telecom Egypt amounts to $150 million for a period of 15 years.
Telecom Egypt's signing of a license to operate fifth generation services comes within the framework of the Egyptian government's keenness to make modern technologies available to institutions and individuals through companies operating in Egypt.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat.
“The availability of 5G technologies would have a tangible impact on achieving digital transformation, which will reflect positively on the national economy and on Egypt’s ranking in international indicators in the communications and information technology sector,” Talaat said in the Cabinet statement.
The NTRA granted 4G licenses back in 2016 to Egypt’s telecoms ranging between $300 million to $1 billion. Vodafone Egypt purchased its license for $335 million, Orange for $335 million, and Etisalat Misr for $535.5 million, with Telecom Egypt acquiring its 4G license for $1.1 billion.
