With an annual output of 92 million tons, Egypt solidified its position among the top 10 cement producers globally, providing essential support for the country's industrial landscape, according to Minister of Trade and Industry, Ahmed Samir.

Samir underscored the pivotal role of Egypt's cement sector as a pillar for the nation's infrastructure and urban development projects, as well as the industrial sector’s role as a key player in Egypt's recovery, addressing global and regional economic challenges.

Speaking at the 26th Arab International Cement & Building Materials Conference and Exhibition (AICCE26) in Cairo, Samir highlighted the significance of the industrial sector, contributing about 17% to the country's GDP and employing approximately 15% of the regular workforce.

The AICCE26, running from January 15 to 17, is organized in collaboration with the Council of Arab Economic Unity and the Council of Arab Ministers for Housing and Reconstruction and serves as a platform for industry experts to discuss and showcase advancements in the cement and building materials sector.

Samir stressed the importance of continued efforts to navigate opportunities and challenges in achieving sustainable development within Egypt's industrial sector, particularly in cement production.

He emphasized the government's commitment to incentivizing local and regional manufacturers, fostering a conducive industrial environment, and promoting the pivotal role of the private sector.

Egypt's cement exports witnessed substantial growth during the first 9 months of 2023, surging by 22% to reach $625 million, compared to $512 million in the same period in 2022.
