MCITMin & US Ambassador discuss strengthening cooperation in ICT fields

Garg commended the efforts and advancements achieved in the Egyptian ICT sector

The Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat met with the US Ambassador to Egypt, Herro Mustafa Garg to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the US across ICT fields.

In her remarks, Garg commended the efforts and advancements achieved in the Egyptian ICT sector. She conveyed her interest in bolstering cooperation between both countries, specifically in areas such as telecommunications infrastructure, data governance, and capacity-building. Furthermore, she emphasized the encouragement for US companies to invest in these fields.

During the meeting, Talaat stressed on the major US companies are operating in the Egyptian ICT sector within the framework of various areas of collaboration between the two countries.

Talaat looked forward to fostering cooperation between the two countries in building digital capacity, especially in programs aimed at upskilling freelancers in technical, soft, and linguistic disciplines. Additionally, he highlighted the potential for collaboration in the areas of data centers and electronics design.

Egypt recently climbed 8 places in the global business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, from the 11th place in 2022 to the 3rd place in 2023, according to the Offshore BPO Confidence Index, evaluated by Ryan Strategic Advisory.

This reflects Egypt’s growth in the outsourcing industry in light of the interest of many international companies operating in this promising industry to invest in Egypt. He added that within a year, a group of agreements were signed with major international and local specialized companies to establish centers to export information technology services to their customers abroad, starting from Egypt.
